Prof. Christian Große is Head of the Chair of Non-Destructive Testing at the School of Engineering and Design of the Technical University of Munich (TUM). The award recognizes his outstanding research in the field of non-destructive testing, which includes quality assurance, inspection and continuous monitoring of components and structures. His work focuses on applications in construction and mechanical engineering, particularly for materials such as concrete, metal, stone and fiber composites.
With his innovative methods for autonomous and continuous monitoring of infrastructure, Große is helping to replace traditional inspection methods. This approach improves safety, reduces costs and promotes the sustainability of structures, which is particularly important in light of Europe's ageing infrastructure.
Together with other researchers at TU Delft, he is working on the integration of non-destructive testing with self-healing materials in order to develop more durable and intelligent structures for Industry 4.0.
